During a systematic screening in a prison setting in Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar – Pakistan, 20,557 inmates were screened using CAD4TB with portable X-ray.
1,964 (10%) of them were identified as presumptive TB with a CAD4TB score ≧ 70 and/or being symptomatic.
As TB prevalence at prisons is around 1.8 times higher than the estimated national prevalence, prisons screening is a necessity to be included as part of routine practice. The use of technology enables mass screening and higher yields of MTB cases, thus reducing transmission.
