Indonesia has the third highest burden of tuberculosis in the world, following only after China and India. Even though Indonesia has made remarkable progress over the last decade, TB still remains one of the top four causes of death in the country, costing the lives of 65.000 people every year.

In collaboration with Fullerton Health, the CAD4TB software was used in several prisons and a factory in Jakarta. Prisoners were first screened on symptoms and in the case symptoms were present that could indicate tuberculosis, a chest X-ray (CXR) was taken in a mobile van. Within that mobile van, the CAD4TB software was installed through the CAD4TBbox – allowing the artificial intelligence software to run completely offline so that it was not dependent on internet availability and so that data was stored locally within the CAD4TBbox. In alignment with our partner Fullerton Health, the right CAD4TB threshold score was set at which a CXR was defined as ‘abnormal’ and presumptive of tuberculosis. In those cases, an Xpert MTB/RIF test was conducted to confirm the potential presence of TB.

In March of 2020, Delft Imaging signed an agreement with the Ministry of Health in Indonesia and IDBH Senso from the Netherlands to implement the CAD4TB artificial intelligence software as an aid in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) in Indonesia. The agreement was signed during the Economic Mission from the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Indonesia and in the presence of the Ministry of Health representatives from both countries. As part of the agreement, the parties involved revealed a framework of cooperation in the field of tuberculosis control in Indonesia in which the artificial intelligence software has been designated to support the detection of TB in Indonesia.
