An estimated 46,000 people in Cameroon had TB in 2020. But roughly half were not diagnosed and notified as only 18% of health facilities offer TB services through unreliable tests for diagnosis.
To evaluate the relative value of different screening strategies, a study using CAD4TB to read chest radiographs for tuberculosis detection were initiated the Bamenda Regional Hospital to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of the deep learning system.
CAD4TB algorithm performed as well as radiologists when identifying TB from chest X-rays. The results of the study were published in Nature Scientific Report in 2019 and outlined important implications for future use of AI.
